Are you tired of the same old roasters and want to spice it up? I made this recently and loved it! You can find the Smoked Paprika at our very own local Lake Stevens Safeway.
Ingredients
2 Tbsp smoked paprika
2 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp softened butter
2 teaspoons garlic salt (or 1 teaspoon salt plus 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 whole 4-5 pound roasting chicken
Method
1 Preheat oven to 325°F. Rinse the chicken off with cold water. Pat dry thoroughly with paper towels (otherwise the paste won’t stick).
2 Mix together the paprika, honey, lemon juice, butter, garlic salt, and pepper. Spread over the entire surface of the chicken and place on a shallow baking pan.
3 Bake at 325°F for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. You may need to adjust the time depending on how big your chicken is. The chicken is done when the juices run clear (not pink) when a knife tip is inserted into both the chicken breast and thigh, about 165-170°F for the breast and 180-185°F for the thigh.

Edie Evans has been a long standing Lake Stevens resident. She is not merely a checker but a mother to 6 children, a grandmother to 10, and wife to 1. One thing for sure about Edie is that she is a go getter and always has a smile on her face. We are proud to know you! ~
Safeway employee’s fans rally as disease forces retirement
She’s one of those people — so chipper at work no one would guess she has problems of her own.
No matter what, Edie Evans has been behind a checkout counter at the Safeway store on Everett’s Broadway. Always diligent, smiling and curious about customers’ lives, Evans has been a grocery checker there since 1976.
She’s been there since before checkers used scanners, when each item was punched in by hand. It couldn’t have been easy, working and raising six children, including a daughter with special needs. Evans did it, along with her husband, George.
At 62, Evans will work her last shift Saturday. It’s not by choice that she is retiring. Evans has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Here are some numbers on the returns for the voting of the new Lake Stevens Sno-Isle Library:
Estimated voting population according to the year 2000 Census Bureau: 4,568
Total Voters May 21st: 1872
YES 1,134 60.58%
NO 738 39.42%
So if my math is correct only 41% of Lake Stevens residents turned out to vote on this issue.
Regardless of which side you stood on, it is a shame to see that nearly 59% of Lake Stevens voters didn’t even care to vote on this issue. Maybe this is a sign of a general malaise voters have in regards to the process. That maybe some have all but given up in believing that it still works. For the most part I hear from people that I know, that even if something gets voted down by the people the politicians have a way of getting their way during one of many next rounds.

Just once, just once, I’d love to see a congressional hearing where congressmen do the hearing. No speeches. No finger-pointing. No made-for-TV broadsides. They just sit. They just listen.
For once, just once, I want to see this ritual of dragging oil.
Executives to Capitol Hill an informative event, and not a media one.
For once, just once, I’d like the witnesses treated like professionals, and not like piñatas.
And for once, just once, I’d like to see the tables turned.
Let the witnesses question the questioners.
The piñatas, the politicians.
Let them demand of Congress:
You think we’re making too much money? What are you doing with all our money?
You won’t let us explore for more oil here, but you’re ripping OPEC for not producing more oil over there? Who’s the bigger hypocrite? Or the more sanctimonious ass?
